Southcoast Food Policy Council News

The Southcoast Food Policy Council (SFPC) Quarterly meeting on January 11 provided an opportunity to share the activities over the past four months and the successes during the fall and winter.

On September 21st, the Southcoast Food Policy Council hosted the 2022 Food Summit in partnership with The Office of Senator Mark Montigny and the UMass Dartmouth Leduc Center for Civic Engagement. This year's theme was: The Intersection of Food and Basic Needs: Healthcare, Housing, and Transportation.

September is Hunger Action Month and The SFPC's Community Advisory Board (CAB) and its associated working groups have been diligently working on creating a strategic Plan of Action to guide our short and long-term goals.

On July 7, 2022, we held our SFPC quarterly meeting and the focus was Legislative Advocacy Training. Working with Rebecca Miller from the MA Food System Collaborative, participants learned how to become confident advocates for a healthy, inclusive, local food system.

Working collaboratively with other state NGOs, we have had some successes this year in our advocacy efforts.

One of the many priorities the Southcoast Food Policy Council (SFPC) identified to work on through our strategic planning process was the SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) Gap.

The Southcoast Food Policy Council (SFPC) accomplished much this month. We hosted our second quarterly meeting for SFPC Members-at-Large on April 14, began meeting with our SFPC Working Groups, and recruited and met with three Food Equity Advisors.
