JULY 2024 | MARION INSTITUTE NEWSLETTER
We had quite the year of expansion here at the Marion Institute! We launched a new farm-to-food relief program called Frogfoot Farm – Neighbors Feeding Neighbors that engages volunteers to grow and glean nutritious produce for regional food relief programs. Our farm-to-school Grow Education footprint grew into Marion and Wareham. The Southcoast Food Policy Council continued to empower the community in advocating for inclusive food system policies, and BioMed’s holistic approach to health reached a record number of individuals.
Our team and partners worked incredibly hard, and our collective impact continues to ripple across the region. I hope you will find a quiet moment to review our recently released FY’23 Annual Report, and that you’ll step away from it feeling a sense of pride in all that we’ve achieved together.
We are honored to share our story with you – our amazing supporters and partners – who have made this work possible. Thank you for your support as we continue to address the needs of our communities.
With gratitude,
Liz Wiley

August BioBites: Healing Trauma and Disease with Biological Medicine
What happened to us in the past—even the things we don’t recall—can have an outsized impact on our health later in life. As a result, we see how chronic illness becomes a by-product of our ignored or misunderstood past. Perhaps it shows up years later as hypertension, disordered eating, diabetes, arthritis, depression, or even cancer.
Through proven techniques rooted in natural therapies and Biological Medicine (think: emotional regulation, mindful movement, etc.) we can begin to shift subconscious trauma histories to the conscious level in order to process, transform, heal, and grow!
This special BioBites presentation will give you a sneak preview of what to expect at the in-person workshop October 25th – 27th at the Omega Institute!
Dr. Dickson Thom, DDS, ND, is the author of the book, Begin Again: Trauma, Disease, and Healing with the Brain Protocol and Biological Medicine. He has more than 45 years of clinical experience helping thousands of patients overcome chronic illness and heal trauma.
Julie Thom is a trauma-informed human movement specialist, wellness coach, and founder of Fitomize Fitness. She is also co-host of the podcast, Connecting with the Thom’s, with her dad, Dr. Dickson Thom.

What’s Growin’ On: Summer Updates from Grow Education
Grow Education students plant garlic in the fall as one of the first garden chores of the school year. Seed saving, plant life cycles, culinary uses, health benefits, and the importance of timing and patience with regards to growing food were all part of the learning process. The cloves are then sown and the classes observe the plants as they mature throughout the year.
Fast forward to last week when the students participating in Wareham Elementary’s summer CARE program harvested these beauties (see adorable photo above)!
Connecting students to the cycles of planting and harvesting, building community through working together, exploring science concepts, and creating hands-on experiences are all central themes of the Grow Education program.
