Things are looking up - or rather, out- at Parker Elementary School! Students will soon be able to look out of new, clear windows at their community and become more engaged with the world outside those windows- including the GROW Education school garden. Thank you to Grow supporter Steven Froias for the shout out. We do believe that WHERE you learn is as important as WHAT you learn and we are proud to be a part of New Bedford Public Schools, providing a welcoming space for project based learning and community building. ... So nice to see some friends of GROW Education featured as Standard-Times Earth Day Heroes for 2018, a yearly honor determined by votes from readers and environmental leaders!
>>> Special Education teacher Caroline Bell at Alfred J Gomes Elementary School has been instrumental in the success of the school garden and exemplifies project based learning, helping her students understand science lessons with hands-on work in the soil.
>>> A recent Grow speaker, farmer Bill Braun of Ivory Silo Farm and his partner Deanna Levanti work to preserve the diversity of the region's food supply through the newly-created Feed Seed Federation, a nonprofit that works to preserve heirloom and open-pollinated varieties of vegetables, while educating other farmers to do the same.
A HUGE thank you to all those named on SouthCoast Today.com including Brendan Annett of the Buzzards Bay Coalition, Derek Christianson of Brix Bounty Farm, Mary Raposa of New Bedford Parks, Recreation & Beaches, Steve Walach of Friends Academy, Dartmouth, MA, Diane Berbube of Operation Clean Sweep (who also worked with the Marion Institute on the Bioneers by the Bay events, and Susan Murray and Tony Wood of Apponagansett Farm. ...
