September is Hunger Action Month and The SFPC's Community Advisory Board (CAB) and its associated working groups have been diligently working on creating a strategic Plan of Action to guide our short and long-term goals.

A child entering into the world has so much to learn. Practical skills like reading, writing, spelling, computer technology, but they also have the task of finding their way in the world, their purpose.

This month we pay our respects and mourn the loss of Peter Muise, the Southcoast Food Policy Council’s (SFPC) Community Advisory Board Chair. Peter passed away on July 6, 2022 after a courageous, 19 year-long battle with cancer.

As with every school garden, the summer brings less students and more sun! Over the years, local residents have become familiar with the gardens and know that they are welcome to harvest vegetables from the garden as they ripen.

On July 7, 2022, we held our SFPC quarterly meeting and the focus was Legislative Advocacy Training. Working with Rebecca Miller from the MA Food System Collaborative, participants learned how to become confident advocates for a healthy, inclusive, local food system.

Working collaboratively with other state NGOs, we have had some successes this year in our advocacy efforts.

June was an abundant month for Grow Education. Students had several opportunities to get into the gardens to participate in a ‘seed-to-fork’ experience. For the majority of our students, this was the first time they had the opportunity to participate fully in the process of growing vegetables.
