We’re beginning this month’s update with some exciting news: the Marion Institute has been selected as one of 30 recipients to receive the 2026 Massachusetts Community Health & Healthy Aging Funds.
This funding will support the regional work of our Southcoast Food Policy Council, helping to strengthen community health and address the root causes of health inequities across Southeastern Massachusetts.
Administered through a partnership between the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, the Executive Office of Aging & Independence, and Health Resources in Action, the Funds have awarded more than $17.1 million to community-driven initiatives across the Commonwealth.
We’re grateful for this investment in lasting, community-led solutions and look forward to sharing more as the work moves forward.

Farm-to-school program promoting health, sustainability, equity, and ecological literacy

he school year is underway, and Grow Education is already in full swing! We’re excited to officially bring our hands-on garden education programming to third-grade students at Fall River’s James Tansey Elementary School, Samuel Watson School, and Westall Elementary School.
We recently welcomed Fall River teachers and administrators to Frogfoot Farm for a fun and engaging professional development day. Together, we connected, explored the farm, and prepared for the year ahead.
With 21 new raised garden beds across the three schools, students will have new opportunities to learn, grow, and connect with fresh food – all while building hands-on skills and a deeper connection to where their food comes from.
