Join us at Sid Wainer & Son on Wednesday, June 11th for a Grow Education Farm-to-School Fundraiser!

Join us to discuss & support the important farm-to-school work the Marion Institute is leading in elementary schools across New Bedford and the Southcoast!

Why a Farm-to-School program?

As a society, we’ve grown increasingly distant from the origins and cultivation of the food we eat. Farm to School (FTS) programs help bridge this gap by educating students on where and how their food is grown while also emphasizing the health benefits of why this matters:

  • The food choices we make matter to our health and the environment.
  • Supporting local producers benefits our local economy and makes our local food system more resilient.
  • Healthy school food helps students perform better.

If we can do it here, we can do it anywhere. Our goal really is to take this program that we’ve developed and then be able to bring it to other districts in Southeastern Mass and that’s really when we’re going to start to see some of the health changes that we want to see as a community and region overall.

– Liz Wiley, Executive Director of the Marion Institute
