Join us at Frogfoot Farm for a BioBlitz on Saturday, August 2nd from 9:30am-1pm!
The Marion Institute is excited to invite you to join us for a fun day conducting our fifth BioBlitz at Frogfoot Farm!
What: A BioBlitz is an event where participants become Citizen Scientists for the day and work together to document as much of the biodiversity – plants, animals, fungi – in a certain area as possible.
Why: Our work with the Frogfoot Farm – Neighbors Feeding Neighbors program seeks to accomplish many goals that, combined, will lead to greater health in our communities and beyond. To that end, we have taken an ecological approach to farming that will welcome nature and offer food and habitat to wildlife to improve our natural surroundings and increase the richness and biodiversity of our landscape. To document our progress, we will periodically conduct BioBlitzes and we need your help as Citizen Scientists!
When: Saturday August 2nd, 9:30am-1pm
Where: We will meet at AD Makepeace’s Box Mill Hall, 146 Tihonet Road, Wareham, MA 02571. There, we will have morning refreshments and provide an introduction and instructions for the morning’s BioBlitz. Then, we will proceed out to Frogfoot Farm and work from 10:15am-12:30pm to document the biodiversity there. We will reconvene at Box Mill Hall to review our findings!
What you will need:
- Attire: Please dress appropriately to be outdoors for the morning – wear a hat, bring sunscreen, and a water bottle and any snacks you might need.
- APP: We will be using an APP called iNaturalist app. This is a crowd-sourcing app that is widely used by professional and amateur naturalists all over the globe! Please download this app ahead of time and try to familiarize yourself with its use.
Register below or, if you prefer, please email Hannah Traggis, htraggis@marioninstitute.org, for assistance in signing up and to answer any questions you may have about the event!
