Position: Marketing & Communications Volunteer/Intern

Commitment: Part-time | Flexible hours | Minimum 5–10 hours/week

About the Role
Are you passionate about storytelling, community engagement, and creative content? The Marion Institute is seeking a Marketing & Communications Volunteer/Intern to support and be mentored in a variety of marketing, communications, and event-related tasks. This role is ideal for students or emerging professionals looking to gain hands-on experience while supporting meaningful work that advances health, food, and environmental equity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Social Media Support: Assist in content planning, post creation, and scheduling across platforms (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, etc.)
  • Graphic Design: Use Canva and Adobe Creative Suite to design digital graphics, flyers, and event materials
  • Editing & Content Creation: Write/edit blog posts, newsletters, and press releases that highlight our programs and impact
  • Multimedia: Capture and edit images, videos, and short-form content for reels and stories
  • Event Support: Participate in local outreach and community events (tabling, setup, photography)
  • General Marketing & Office Support: Assist with prep for presentations, tracking metrics, organizing materials, and other marketing-related administrative tasks

Qualifications

  • Interest in marketing, communications, journalism, or related fields
  • Familiarity with social media platforms and basic design tools (experience with Canva and/or Adobe a plus)
  • Strong writing, organizational, and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Creative, self-starting, and eager to learn
  • Access to a personal laptop and smartphone is required
  • Occasional local travel to events and off-site locations may be needed
