Join us at Sid Wainer & Son on Wednesday, June 11th for a Grow Education Farm-to-School Fundraiser!
Join us to discuss & support the important farm-to-school work the Marion Institute is leading in elementary schools across New Bedford and the Southcoast!
Why a Farm-to-School program?
As a society, we’ve grown increasingly distant from the origins and cultivation of the food we eat. Farm to School (FTS) programs help bridge this gap by educating students on where and how their food is grown while also emphasizing the health benefits of why this matters:
- The food choices we make matter to our health and the environment.
- Supporting local producers benefits our local economy and makes our local food system more resilient.
- Healthy school food helps students perform better.
Event Highlights:
- Come savor the local flavors featuring the innovative and local flavors of renown chef, Chris Cronin
- Step into an immersive story walk experience
Our Grow Education farm-to-school program has been operating successfully in New Bedford for 5 years. Our goal is to expand this work of food literacy and sourcing more local food for school meals across Southeastern Massachusetts—and that’s when we’ll really start to see the health changes we want for our communities and our region overall.
