Formally known as the Southeastern MA Food Security Network, the Marion Institute Southcoast Food Policy Council’s mission is to connect, convene, and advocate for local food producers, consumers, and community leaders who seek policy and systems that strengthen our regional food system, improve community health, and eliminate food insecurity.

Wareham Week – July 16, 2020 – Fresh fruits and vegetables given to families in need
In Wareham, the Marion Institute recently partnered with the Gleason Family YMCA which serves as a distribution site, and has now teamed up with Jowaun Gamble, the founder of Community Youth Empowerment, to hand out 20 pound boxes of fresh produce at the Wareham Boys and Girls Club each Thursday from 4 to 6 p.m.
Sippican Week – July 8, 2020 – Families receive free, farm-fresh food each week
Each week, nearly 200 families receive twenty pound boxes of fresh, high-quality produce -- and it's all free. By the end of August, the program will have brought a total of 600,000 pounds of produce to families across the South Coast.
Wareham.WickedLocal.com – June 25, 2020 – Good Shepherd’s Table in Wareham at 20 still going strong providing food to those in need
When COVID-19 made sit-down dinners impossible, Good Shepherd’s Table switched to take-out. And it continues to provide hot dinners to folks in need via take-out every Thursday, from 4 to 5 p.m., serving well in excess of 100 meals.
SouthCoastToday.com – June 16, 2020 – Sid Wainer to distribute 10,000 boxes of produce to New Bedford community
To ensure the best impact on the local community and to spread the word, Sid Wainer has partnered with the United Way of Greater New Bedford and The Marion Institute’s Southcoast Food Policy Council to reach thousands of families in the South Coast community through the Southcoast Farmers to Families initiative.
WarehamWeekToday.com (May 6, 2020) – ‘Cooks for Community’ providing 300 meals per day in Wareham, New Bedford
The Marion Institute’s South Coast Food Policy Council’s Cooks for Community Program debuted on April 13 to provide hot meals five days a week through May 8 for a total of 2,400 hot meals in Wareham.
