Transforming Cambodia Through Arts

CLA's Community Arts Retreat

Posted by Marion on 9.14.2012

From September 5th to 8th, 2012, Cambodian Living Arts (CLA) organized a Community Arts retreat in Kampot province, with the aim of having the actors of its Community Arts program get to know each other better and connect with other valuable arts organizations. CLA invited 45 people, including CLA’s teachers, partners from Kompong Chheuteal highschool in Kompong Thom province and representatives of its partner organization Cambodian Volunteers for Community Development (CVCD).

Participants met daily at Epic Arts, a disability arts charity center, and were informed about CLA’s mission, aims and objectives, followed by discussions. A long talk was dedicated to the Cambodian Youth Arts Festival (CYAF) 2012 and scholarships provided as part of the Capacity Building program. This retreat was also an occasion for teachers to share their experiences and issues from their classes. Participants also visited the Khmer Cultural Development Institute (KCDI), where they attended a performance.

CLA is excited about the success of this retreat, as it emphasizes the importance of communication between CLA and its stakeholders, as well as between the actors directly involved in the development of arts in Cambodia.
