Strengthening community starts with local leadership development

My experience at P.O.W.E.R. dealing with leadership development has been remarkable. I’ve gained a renewed sense of pride. I find myself in rooms sitting at the table to meet with very influential figures in the city and at this point it’s normal for me. P.O.W.E.R. has successfully pushed me to operate at a higher level than what’s expected, especially when considering my age. Doing this high level work, helps me think and produce at a high level as well as gain a sense of ownership and fulfillment. I’ve learned to think with a whole system approach. Humbly, my abilities surprise others that I encounter both in groups we are in partnership with and everyday acquaintances almost daily.

From day one at P.O.W.E.R. till now, I have made tremendous leaps within my communication, computer, management and leadership skills. Also, P.O.W.E.R. has allowed me to heighten my awareness in spirituality and world issues. I have become a young man that strides to live by the values of accountability and keeping our commitments to the earth and the people in mind. This must be one of the most rewarding jobs around in terms of people profit and planet. I’ve built relationships and un-breakable connections in the city of New Bedford and beyond that I can continue to thrive from. I believe our individual and organizational impression will be unforgettable. I’ve gained significant knowledge when it comes to energy efficiency and sustainability. This is knowledge that I can apply to my life in the future.

As we are all about to realize, knowledge around sustainability is what it’s going to take in order for us to survive. I’m just thankful to have the opportunity to be one of the first in this area because it became a leadership opportunity. Now I can be a model not only for my immediate circle but for young people like me in other states of the country as well. Investing in the youth is a form of sustainability in itself. This job allowed me to take part in the most positive affective changes that has happened in this vicinity in years. Regardless of what happens with this movement these are values that I can continue to apply to my life moving forward. Thank You P.O.W.E.R.
